The study found that participants who drank 2-3 or more cups of tea per day had a lower risk of death compared to those who drank ≤1 cup of tea per day. However, drinking too much tea, the risk of death will not be reduced all the time, and it will plateau at 2-3 cups/day. In other words, the optimal amount of tea per day is 2-3 cups of tea.

A total of 15 patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease were enrolled in the study, and their liver data were examined at the beginning, 12 weeks, and 24 weeks after ingestion of EGCG via tea polyphenol tablets. They found that their liver fat content was significantly lower after 24 weeks compared to the start, and two of the patients had fatty liver remission after 24 weeks. In addition, the patients’ waist circumference and total cholesterol levels also decreased significantly after 24 weeks.

In October 2023, researchers from Zhongda Hospital affiliated to Southeast University released a new study at the 2023 European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) annual meeting showing that compared with people who never drink tea, people who drink black tea every day have a 47% lower risk of type 2 diabetes and a 53% lower risk of pre-diabetes.

The study, which included more than 1.07 million participants, found that those who drank 1-3 cups of tea a day had a 4 percent lower risk of developing diabetes than those who rarely drank tea. Drinking four or more cups of tea a day was associated with a 17% lower risk of developing diabetes. These include black tea, green tea and oolong tea.
